An Open Letter to the Pundit Who Debates Me for Ratings

You found a reliable formula: seat someone who thinks I deserve rights beside someone who is not sure, point a camera at the friction, and sell the heat as balance. Six minutes, two talking heads, one settled question dressed up as an open one. The format flatters you as neutral. It is not.

There are questions with two legitimate sides. Whether a category of people gets to exist in public is not one of them. Staging it as a debate does not make it a debate; it just lends a closed question the costume of an open one, and pays you for the rental.

I will argue tax policy or system design with anyone, all day. I will not perform uncertainty about my own right to exist so your segment can feel even-handed. The next time you book the panel, notice that the people whose lives are the topic are rarely the ones you invite to discuss them.
