Coffee-Driven Development

Every piece of critical infrastructure I have ever built was, at some layer of the stack, powered by coffee. It does not show up in the architecture diagram, but it is load-bearing all the same.

There is a reason the “powered by coffee” joke never dies. The uptime of the engineer is a hard dependency of the uptime of the system, and the engineer, late in an incident, runs largely on caffeine and spite. Remove the bean and watch your mean-time-to-recovery quietly triple.

I am not endorsing this as a health plan. I am reporting it as an operational reality. Somewhere right now a server is staying up because someone decided to have a third cup instead of going to bed. Pour one out — no, pour one in. Respect the bean.
